About Cameron Nickerson

Hailing from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, Cameron Nickerson has been playing country music since he was about 8 years old. Although most interested in rock and metal music in his childhood, Cam became inspired by by both his father and grandfather, who both played and toured in country-bluegrass bands. Cameron started recording and playing live music in junior high with his best friends. In 2011, Cameron's high school band The Rockabillys won CBC's Battle of the Bands, released an EP & a full length record, and opened for The Sheepdogs under this name.

Nickerson’s 2018 solo career debut LP, Detours, established him as a formidable voice on the East Coast, earning nominations for Country Album of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards (2019) and the Nova Scotia Music Awards (2018). Following the release of Detours, Cameron had the pleasure of opening for Tanya Tucker in Yarmouth (2019)! In 2023, Cameron returned stronger than ever with his sophomore record, Submission, a critically acclaimed album recognized with a Nova Scotia Music Award nomination. This record supported Cameron's live music journey, as he went on to play the 2023 Cavendish Beach Music Festival (Emerging Artist Stage), and Larlee Creek Hullaboo (Main Stage).

But Nickerson’s evolution doesn’t stop there- recently, he released his 3rd LP, The Wagon, which marks his first official venture into the bluegrass genre,  after having dreamed of making a bluegrass record for many years. The Wagon has already landed on Sirius XM's “North Americana” (Ch. 359) and Spotify's “North Country” playlist, setting the tone for a new chapter as Nickerson embraces the vibrant and progressive sounds of folk music, while staying true to his storytelling roots.

With his heads tats and bluegrass, Nickerson is proving that tradition still has plenty of edge.

Aside from music, Cameron achieved his Personal Training Certification in 2023, and enjoys regularly working out, as well as cold plunging in freezing cold bodies of water all over Canada. Cameron even built his own cold plunge from an old deep freezer, which he regularly climbs into on his porch back home!
